I have installed knoppmyth R5A16 with great success. I can watch live tv, recordings without any problems, but currently I just point the antenna and move it around a bit and hope for the best. When you are using the DVB drivers under this version of knoppmyth, how to you view the signal strength with dtvsignal. I've done it under Fedora Core 3 with V4L drivers by typing "dtvsignal /dev/video0 29", but I don't know the device with dvb drivers. Please type the exact command if you could. Thanks. I've been able to run "dtvsignal /dev/dvb/adaptor0/(one of the 6-7 devices in that directory) 29" but it just gives me 0 for signal strenth when I know I'm getting more than that. |

A link here (or a direct answer) would help. I've searched the forums here and elsewhere for hours now and not been able to get an answer. I've found people reporting their signal strengths. I've found people saying that dtvsignal doesn't work with the dvb drivers. I have found people mentioning azap and talking about it being unhelpful. What I have not found was a simple command to tell me how to get signal strength on my HD3000 for channel 5 or 7 or 26 or whatever. When people are searching for this topic on a later date, this topic name would make for an easy find, which we don't have yet. |

This is the one I remembered seeing: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... l+strength I haven't tried it, though. You basically remove all the cx88 modules, then you can use the dtvsignal utilities that come with the HD3000, then reboot and all the cx88 modules are back after the reboot. |

Thanks, that is exactly what I needed. The process is rather cumbersome but it answered my questions. Turns out signal strength isn't my problem. I have channels with equal strengths that do and don't work, right up to 99%. On some channels it is all as smooth as silk. On others the sound pops and hesitates. Video tends to be watchable, but a little likewatching under a strobe light. I had hoped that a weak signal was causing the problem because it would be a straightforward fix. But this test dispelled that notion. So its on to other options. Thus far I also know that playback doesn't seem to be overtaxing my cpu (AMD Barton XP3000) and extra audio buffers in set-up/tv/playback doesn't make a difference either. Input is welcome. |

If you're trying to output a 1080i source to a 1080i display, an AMD 3000 XP is right on the hairy edge. I couldn't get my 2800 to work satisfactorily. Also, make sure you have installed the accelerated video driver correctly and check the XF86 log to make sure it's being used. |

I have some instructions to do what you are discussing at the end of the R5A16 HD-3000 HOWTO. Feel free to add any additional pointers! http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page ... 3000_HOWTO Thanks! Andrew Lynch |

On some channels it is all as smooth as silk. On others the sound pops and hesitates. One thing to watch out for is multipath signals. They can appear very strong, but they come and go, so reception is horrible. You might need to swing your antenna around and make sure you're getting the "right" signal. Rather than trust the signal strength utilities, I use my old set-top HDTV tuner. I have the antenna running through it first, then to my HD3000, and use it to see if my antenna is positioned properly. |
