Post subject: | Recording correct channel |
I've got a Comcast Digital cable box.. so my PVR-350 MUST always be set to Channel 4 in order to record properly. Since it sometimes worked and sometimes didn't, it took a while to understand what was going on.. I think I've got it.. Under SETUP >> Input Connections >> tuner 0 (my default input) I've got: Video Source: <my comcast digital lineup> Input Preference: 0 External Change Channel Command: (blank) Preset tuner to channel: 4 Starting Channel: 4 Here's what's happening: If I Schedule to record a program on an upper channel (above channel 125), it will set the tuner to 4 and record properly. For any channel in the lower range (1 to 125), it will change the tuner to that channel and record "snow".. bummer! As a side effect, recording on the lower channel (between 1 and 125), my "Starting Channel" in the setup is changed to that channel. It is not changed if I record a higher channel. This gets annoying, when I want to use "Watch TV". (I really want that to "stick" to channel 4.) I have an IR Blaster, but I have not set that up yet.. until then, I will be changing my cable box to the desired channel. Any suggestions would be very appreciated! Thanks! |

If you want to record from the digital cable box you will have to use a channel change script. if you want to change the channels yourself you will have to create some sort of null channel change script (no I've never heard of anyone doing this, so can't help) if you don't it will try to use the internal tuner to change to the proper channel and thus not be on channel 4 anymore. Your best bet is probably to just go ahead and get the irblaster running. |

tjc posted a reply recently suggesting using /bin/true as the channel change script. It wont do anyting but it will return a success status to myth. That might be worth a try, but I've got to agree with X just go ahead with the blaster. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... 0&start=15 |

I guess I just presumed that setting the "Preset tuner to channel" would lock in the channel.. (or prevent MythTV from attempting to change the channel) .. the more I think about it.. actually, the upper channel "works OK" only because the channel changing fails.. and it's left on "4". BUT .. when the "Starting Channel" is changed.. the tuner MAY change to that, and I get a failure. (as I think on it.. I have had failure at an upper channel.) Getting the irblaster running IS my best next step. Thanks! |
