Post subject: | One step at a time IP Address |
I am attempting to setup KNOPPMYTH using a KWORLD card that is recognized at boot time. I want to use a single CPU running both front and backend. What IP address must I enter to make this happen. Thanks FWIW.. My KWORLD card works very well with cable TV using WINXP Pro |

Don't worry about it the defaults will work fine for a combo fron/backend box. |

I am trying to setup KNOPPMYTH on a single cpu with the front & backend on the same machine. My hardware/software environment is in my sign block. The card (KWORLD 878 PRO) I am using works very well in WinXP pro I have read dozens of posts, wikis, howtos, etc and reloaded KNOPPMYTH many, many times. I am reasonably versed in LINUX but less than a novice with MYTHTV. I have some specific (really basic} questions and am determined to make this thing work. I have purchased a WinTV PVR150 card to try but my success with it is no better than the KWORLD 878. I'd like to concentrate on the KWORLD card and would like to communicate with a successful user who has the patience to work with noobies. I would like to determine what entries are required in /etc/mythtv/modules/ bttv . I've tried many different sets from various post without visible success. I am getting a wide variety of messages during execution which lead me to believe my mythbackend is having problems. In the setup procedure, the GENERAL block deals with the IP address of thebackend... I've read many conflicting posts (and tried bunches) as to what should be entered for a single machine with both "ends" running on the same machine My current position is that when I execute mythtv, some messages are flashed quickly, a blue screen, followed by a black screen, which is replaced after a long period with a message "the connection to master backend has gone away... is it still running" The following is the message stream from the window I executed mythtv from. ****************************Messages from mythtv execution************** 2005-08-27 11:48:35.651 New DB connection, total: 1 Total desktop width=1024, height=768, numscreens=1 2005-08-27 11:48:35.662 Using screen 0, 1024x768 at 0,0 2005-08-27 11:48:35.687 Switching to square mode (blue) mythtv: could not connect to socket mythtv: Connection refused lirc_init failed for mythtv, see preceding messages 2005-08-27 11:48:36.181 Joystick disabled. 2005-08-27 11:48:36.219 New DB connection, total: 2 2005-08-27 11:48:36.242 Connecting to backend server: 127.0.0.1:6543 (try 1 of 2) 2005-08-27 11:48:36.243 Trying to wake up the MasterBackend now. 2005-08-27 11:48:36.251 Waiting for 15 seconds until I try to reconnect again. 2005-08-27 11:48:51.254 Connecting to backend server: 127.0.0.1:6543 (try 2 of 2) 2005-08-27 11:48:51.254 Trying to wake up the MasterBackend now. 2005-08-27 11:48:51.261 Waiting for 15 seconds until I try to reconnect again. 2005-08-27 11:49:06.263 Connecting to backend server: 127.0.0.1:6543 (try 3 of 2) 2005-08-27 11:49:06.263 Trying to wake up the MasterBackend now. 2005-08-27 11:49:06.270 Waiting for 15 seconds until I try to reconnect again |

Ok ignore my answer if you want, but if you look I have been around here quite a while, and for a singe box you do not have to touch any ip addresses in the mythtv-setup. I haven't used a kworld, but know for a fact from watching the forums for a couple of years that the proper settings for those cards have been listed a couple of times. now the proper place to put those settings is /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv now the other error you are seeing, run ps -ae | grep myth and see if you see mythbackend or something close to that ( can't get to my box at the second.) if not run /etc/init.d/mythbackend (or something close, may have a - ) see if you get any errors if not repeat the above step and see if it's running. |

Xsecrets Thanks for your quick response to my diatribe...I had that message already put together to try to explain the things I had (or hadn't done ) and believe me I didn't purposely ignore your advice.... What I did, was to reload KNOPPMYTH (again !) added "options bttv card=78 tuner=5" to bttv and rebooted. Went through the whole nine yards of the configuration script changing only the startup channel to 5 (3 is not assigned in Atlanta). The net result of this was a GREEN screen with about an inch and a half of colored "snow" at the top. Got a whole ration of new messages . Looking at /var/log/mythtv/ mythbackend.log , there are a bunch of current messages from the backend which would indicate indeed that it is running ... and disturbed about lack of channels in the database. I'll research this until I can come up witj some meaningful questions. Thanks for your patience and guidance **********************************Excerpt from backend.log************************************ Channel: '' was not found in the database. Most likely, the default channel set for this input (1 Television ) in setup is wrong Couldn't find any channels in the database, please make sure your inputs are associated properly with your cards. did you setup your zap2it source and associate it with the proper input in mythtv-setup? |

I did a complete restart with a newly downloaded ISO. I now have an OTA picture from the Atlanta area stations with my KWORLD card.. The picture is B/W with unsynced sound but is beautiful compared to the GREEN screen with the inch and a half of colored snow. I really appreciate the help & guidance I've gotten here... the KnoppMyth distro is a great piece of work but it was difficult for me because of my complete ignorance of the relationship of the different entries on the setup screens. The tip on matching the source to the video card was a great suggestion as it pointed out the value of looking at the explanation that is attached to most entries. Took me a while to realize that I had to be connected to the InterNet DURING the configuration setup script and that even with a broadband connection, it took a very long time to download and install a guide from ZAPit.. I expect I will have to do a lot of tweaking to get color and synced sound but what the hey... this is the fun part. My KWORLD does a pretty decent job under WINXP so I hopefully expect to duplicate that experience. BTW... in looking at the variouscd burner programs, it appears that most of them have problems with kernels later than 2.4 What is recommended for a R5A16 level ??? Thanks again for all the help and patience... |
