Post subject:  Almost there - remote and display problems

i've got my myth setup up and running. PVR-150, hauppauge remote. I can get TV (i think i still need to tweak the video a little), but my 2 lingering problems are as follows:

1) There are light horizontal lines slowly going up the screen constantly. not just while viewing TV. this happens from the moment I turn the computer on, it's visible during boot, in the myth menu, watching TV, etc. it's almost like on an old TV (pre-cable) where the antenna wouldn't quite be tuned in and the picture would scroll...well, my picture isn't scrolling, but these light white/gray lines are...i've tried moving it away from the TV (interference?), unplugging the cable, etc etc. No change. What am i missing? If i leave the TV on and the computer off, I don't get this, so I know it's my myth machine.

2) I can get my remote to work, thanks to http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4609&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0. However, it will only work for a few minutes, and then it stops working. The only way I can get it working again is to do a cold boot. Has anyone had this problem? (I read the one post about restarting gdm, but that didn't fix it for me).

Overall though, this is such an awesome piece of software!
Thanks for your help!!!

left out some details, sorry. i'm using the nvivia s-video out on the board. not sure if that matters, because it doesn't seem like a driver problem or anything like that...
thanks.

Do you see the lines on the TV when you are watching TV using the TV's tuner (with the computer turned on). Your computer power supply may be putting interference onto the mains. If this is the problem you could probably get a mains filter for the supply to your PC

If you do get it watching TV (with the computer on but using the TV's tuner), does it go away when you unplug the svid cable?

If this is the case, it could be interference from your PC getting in that way. Do you have the option for a spread-spectrum clock in the bios. You could try that.

It could also be ground loops. You could get an isolating transformer for your antenna cable, or just try moving your computer and all of the cables about and see if it has an effect. This has a signigficant effect on my TV's tuner in my setup.

funny, as a part of a seperate re-arrangement project, i moved the whole set up (TV, computer, receiver, etc) to the other side to the room and now there are no more scrolling lines! go figure!

remote is still flaky though...once i get that going, my life will be complete!!!!
