Post subject:  Screen size too big for TV

Hi guys. I currently have my KnoppMyth box hooked up to my PAL 4:3 TV. I have the display size set to 720 x 576 in XF86Config-4 but it's too big for the TV at the moment. What's my best option to make the screen fit? I know I can adjust the display size through settings > appearance - is this the best method?

What video card are you using for the TV out?

the problem you have is called overscan. If you have an nvidia videocard there is a utility you can run and adjust the overscan settings of the card to match your TV. Other then that I don't know how other videocards adjust their overscan settings.

Oh I see. I'm using a Via Epia board with onboard video but the picture is coming out of my PVR 350.

Thanks.

perhapse this thread will help X display is larger than TV's: PVR 350 w/ TV-Out

In short you can easily fix it in the frontend's setup menu (thats what I did, works great). But if you want to use the X desktop or play stuff in mplayer you need to adjust the timings in the Xconfig file (will probaly be doing this this wekend).
