I want to record some TV shows and then burn them to DVD to watch at my leisure. My Default setting records at 720x480, 4800-6000 bitrate. Those shows show up just fine when I select KnoppMyth->Create DVD. However, the quality is so high that I can't even fit two one hour shows on one DVD; I have to put each one on a separate DVD, and that's somewhat costly.

When I record shows at any other resolution, such as 480x480 or 352x480, or any lower bitrate, such as 3000-4000 or 2800-3200, KnoppMyth->Create DVD won't see them at all.

If I select those shows for transcoding in Create DVD, it just says "Transcode of complete", like there should have been a name in there. If I select those shows for transcoding in Media Library->Watch Recordings->Job Options->Transcode, then go to System Status to check on the jobs, they all say "Status: errored (mythtv)".

I have KnoppMyth R5A16. What should I be doing here? I just want to get at least two hours' worth of shows onto one DVD.

you say you've tried lowering the bitrate without lowering the resolution? I didn't think dvd was dependant on bitrate just resolution, however I could be wrong on this one. I don't know that much about nuv2disc (what knoppmyth uses for dvd burning), but jams might stumble on this, and he wrote it, so he should know all the answers as to how it determines eligibility.

There's an upper limit to allowable DVD bitrate (9.8Mbps for video+audio); not sure if there's a lower one although I'd tend to say there isn't. Also can't see why a change in the bitrate would make an MPEG2 file ineligible.

The resolutions mentioned (720x480, 352x480) are definitely allowable for authoring packages under Windows and OS X. I use 'em all the time.

If you don't use the feature built in to KnoppMyth, what do you usually use?

I move files via samba to my Windows machine and use TMPGEnc DVD Author.

That works, but how do you know which recorded file matches which show?

nuv2disc doesn't check for bitrate it only looks at the resolution.
Valid resolutions are
"720x480"
"352x480"
"720x576"
"704x576"

As far as the transcode problem, that's a nuvexport problem.

At the moment nuv2disc uses nuvexport for the transcoding. Nuvexport seems to be broken at any given point in time, so it's not a big shock the transcode button does not work.
