I have a computer with a windows shared folder with backed up video i would like to put onto my PVR. I can also set up an FTP server on the computer with the backed up video. The PVR is running KnoppMyth, im not sure how to use FTP, or how to access windows shared folders on it (i think you can with Samba?). Anyhow how can i get the files on my windows system over to the PVR? Im a total Linux beginner, i can hardly install anything, so if you can help be thorough please.

You don't need ftp. Simply download winscp (winscp.net I believe or google) and use that. It isn't too difficult.

I got winscp, but im not sure how to use it. If anyone could help me that'd be great. Are the username/password = to the linux username and password? use the ip address of the PVR correct? SFTP SFP (allow SCP callbck) or SCP? I connect then just upload all the video to it? Answers would be great, sorry im so uneducated in the linux department, but i'm learning.

Note: This forum isn't a Windows support forum.
The username/password to access the box is mythtv. Yes, use the IP of the PVR. You'll want to place the video files in /myth/video.

ALT + CTRL + F1, login to console using ID/password created during install or root/password created during install. Same login for WinSCP

Code:
ifconfig

I would just give WinSCP a try, it is really very easy to use and doesn't require much explanation if you have ever used a non IE ftp client. I don't know the correct settings not being at home, but try the default on port 22.[/quote]

that's for the localhost interface, and will always exist, but you should have another interface as well.

Should be a eth0 or eth1 adapter. What type of NIC do you have? If integrated onto the motherboard verify it is enabled in the BIOS.
