Post subject:  HELP! accidentally removed vital pkgs!

In my haste to update a package via apt-get, I didn't realize that it would remove almost every important package in KnoppMyth!

Here's what got removed:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
alsa-headers guarddog kdelibs-bin kdelibs4 kdelibs4-dev libarts1 libarts1-dev
libmyth-0.18 libmyth-0.18-dev libqt3c102-mt libqt3c102-mt-mysql mythplugins
myththemes mythtv mythtv-backend mythtv-debug mythtv-frontend

I tried to do an apt-get install for the removed packages, but no luck.

I'm such an idiot! How can I re-install these properly?

Thanks in advance.

okay now I just did apt-get install mythtv after adding the Ubuntu repositories. After that I had to do

apt-get install mythplugins mythweb

and it looks like I'm back to semi-normal.

Whew!

Easiest thing is probably:
    - Make a back up
    - Verify that it REALLY worked
    - Manually tar up all of /etc /root and /home into /myth/backup (using different names from the ones created by the backup script) for reference purposes
    - Also save any custom scripts you've created elsewhere like /usr/local/bin
    - Auto upgrade back to the same version
You will lose any custom updates (additional packages, and the like) but at least you should be back to a known good state. If you have good notes you should be able to reproduce the customizations easily enough.
