Does the "previously recorded" list grow forever? If so, I'd like to know how to purge it just to keep the database small and clean. For example, purging all entries older than 30 days)?

I don't know how to purge it, but it does continue to grow forever and I for one would be extremely upset if it didn't. my main box has the last two years worth and it's the reason I'm very careful to carry over my db on all upgrades, that way I don't have to worry about recording repeats. If you're not going to track it any longer than 30 days why bother having a recorded programs database at all?

I guess I don't have use for that feature of a pvr. I pick exactly what I want to record, no more and no less. Sometimes, I don't mind repeats - I'll just delete it if I don't want to watch it.

But mostly, I'm concerned about the space issue if it just keeps growing. A few megs is ok; a couple hundred megs - well, that's just waste space for a feature I don't use.

Do you have any idea how previously recorded programs it would take to use up even 10Mb of space and how long it would take you to record that many things at anywhere near a realistic rate? I've got about 1500 listed and oldrecorded.* takes less than 1Mb (about 20 seconds worth of recording space). The whole DB takes ~110Mb or roughly 3 minutes worth of recording space.

I too would like to know how to clear previously recorded items.

Why? Well, it's because some programs are always broadcast with the same subtitle and description, and because of this, my box is now refusing to record some shows. No matter what I do (be it a custom or manual schedule), it always detects some programs as "previously recorded" and refuses flat-out to re-record them. I haven't found any way around this. Other programs which use unique subtitles or descriptions work fine.

It's driving me nuts!

You can clear the previously recorded shows through the Manage Recordings option in the menu. If your SQL savvy you can take a look at the oldrecorded table.

also if you've got a recording that you don't want to look for previously recorded you can just change the scheduling options to don't match duplicates.
