I've been searching for instructions on how to force update our channel guide.

The pc's initial network connection was lost due to a faulty router. As a result the channel guide displays 'unknown' for all channels and shows.

Are there instructions out there to force update the channel guide? I have a current Zap2It account, and was able to successfully retrieve channel listings originally.

I see this is your first post. Have you tried "mythfilldatabase"?

Run "mythfilldatabase --help" to see other options.

mythfilldatabase --do_channel_updates

Followed by

mythfilldatabase --refresh-all

All options are as stated by mythfilldatabase --help

I was assuming that the backend would run mythfilldatabase automatically. Am I correct? If so, my backend does not seem to be doing this. I've been running my backend for about two weeks and today my guide info runs out. Is there a setting that I missed? Or do I have to run mythfilldatabase manually every week?

Yes. In setup, General. It's the last page.

It should be set up by default. If it's not you had an install problem of some kind, possibly a bad burn. If it is set to run mythfilldatabase and that's not working you most likely botched something when mythtv-setup ran. Rerun the setup program (search the forum for full directions) and make sure you've got the account information setup correctly. Note that running it the first time is a bit different because you need to download and select your lineup(s).

Thanks for the pointers. It wasn't clear if you meant mythtv-setup or mythfrontend setup, so I looked in both, and it was in mythfrontend setup/General, 7th (last screen). I don't remember doing anything in setting up anything that wasn't default, but maybe I just screwed up. Thanks for the help.

If we are talking about running mythfilldatabase automatically, I don't think so, at least not on any of the fresh installs I've done. Which suits me fine because I have to cron a manual mythfilldatabase script to get my EPG.
