Post subject: | How are recordings stored and treated? |
Now I am used to Myth storing live tv in the buffer, however with the .19 it doesnt do that anymore. How it is now do I have to delete everything in the recorded section that is not a true recording? That is really tedious thats all. I just wanted to know if I am missing something. If I go through channels it makes a "recording" for everything I put on for a channel. Then I have to go back to delete them all because they are not real recordings I want to keep? Just want clearification here not complaining.... Thanks |

By default the recordings from the live tv buffer should be deleted after 1 day. I don't know what 1 day realy means. There is a recording setting that defines how long these should be kept. I don't remember where it is. That setting only allows you to increase the time they are kept though, not decrease it. These recording should also be deleted as needed if space is required for scheduled recordings. I have not verified that this works. My only problem with these recordings, is that I'm a channel flipper. This tends to clutter my view recordings menu. I don't mind the recordings being there, I just wish they did not show up in my menus. mike |

There's a very nice write up on this in the documentation over at the MythTV site... All recordings now go into the same storage pool and get handled uniformly. As you can imagine this has a number of benefits. For example, no more missing the last 10 minutes of something because you were behind real time when a scheduled recording grabbed the tuner. Also, if you decide 20 minutes in that you really want to "record" (keep) this show, you can. To keep the desirable live TV behavior, they go into a special "live" category which has very short expiration times (typically a day) and they're also the first things to get expired under "low space" conditions. However both of these are done with the standard mechnaisms used for all recordings by using appropriate settings. I think there's even a mechanism for very short stuff (from when you're channel surfing) to get dumped. In short, it's a very well thought out design, and there's no need for manual maintenance. |

By default they do not show up in the menus. Mine never do. I have to go specifically choose the livetv group to find them. Sounds like you have changed a setting somewhere. |

That does explain alot, however I have not changed anything with settings and it shows up in the recorded programs, it never asks for what group I want to put it into. Anyone know where the refrence point is in the setup or settings? I will look futher when I get home. Thanks for all the help so far!! |

This depnds on a setting in the TV configs, something about showing live recordings in "all programs" list is what memory says. Hang on... OK, it's on the 4th screen under "Playback". |
