Post subject:  How to selectively use Bob Deinterlacing?

My current setup is preventing me from using 1080i on my SONY RPTV, due to a limitation with the DVI interface. I may switch to a VGA->Component converter, and then I may be able to get 1080i modelines to work natively.
Until then.....
I get wavy vertical lines on 1080i channels unless I use the Bob Deinterlacer, and the playback is choppy unless I then use XvMC.
But I only need it on the 1080i channels. The FOX/ABC channels (720p) playback fine without the Deinterlacer and XvMC. In fact, they're a lot smoother without.
I recently upgraded the nVidia drivers to 8178 (I'm on R5B7), hoping that would solve my DVI/1080i problem. It didn't, but did clear up some lockups that I'd been having, so I'd like to avoid rolling that back.
But the side-effect is that it's not tolerant of the 720p playback going through XvMC and Bob. Plays a few secs, then stops. I do a skip and it'll play a few more secs.

So without having to go into the settings and turn the deinterlacing/XvMC on/off all the time, I think I've seen a writeup on using the custom settings for some channels and not others.
I do not know what I'm looking for, so I haven't had much luck searching.

So anyway, can someone point me to a writeup on how to do this? Or where to start? Or know if it can/can't be done? Thanks.

Not sure about XvMC, but IIRC you can set custom filters for different channels under the channel setup (mythtv-setup from command line).

Yes, that's it, thanks.

Hmm.
Maybe it won't work. In the docs, under bobdeint:

Code:
NOTE: This filter requires the frame rate to be doubled and therefore can only be used with the "Deinterlace Playback" checkbox. Do not include this in your filter chain.

So maybe I can't have it both ways...

Post subject:  So...

I hate to revive an old thread, but did anyone ever work out a way to selectively bob?

It's exactly what I'm trying to do.

Is there a way to toggle the deinterlace checkbox depending on what channel is selected?

AFAIK XvMC reinitializes itself everytime you load a new channel anyway, so surely it's possible?

If anyone has any experience with this, please let us know!

Cheers,

marty

That question is probably best asked on the mythtv-users mailing list (after first searching the archives to check if it has been answered before of course).
