Post subject:  Problems and question of a R5B7 upgrade

Well.. i just upgrade to R5B7 and i have a couple of questions and problems..

First.. on the mythtv-setup, i dont have the /mnt/store directory (that's the video store directory suggested by mythtv-setup) so i create a symbolic link to /myth (where i have 170 GB of disk space and where my last knoppmyth was storing the videos). Dont know if i do this in the right way.

on /myth i have:

drwxr-xr-x 6 www-data www-data 4096 Oct 19 2004 avimanager
drwxr-xr-x 2 mythtv mythtv 4096 Mar 28 08:01 backnew
drwxrwxr-x 2 mythtv mythtv 4096 Mar 16 08:08 backup
drwxrwxr-x 3 mythtv mythtv 4096 Mar 17 19:42 gallery
drwxrwxr-x 6 mythtv mythtv 4096 Mar 16 08:08 games
drwxrwxr-t 2 mythtv www-data 8192 Dec 10 02:05 image_cache
drwx------ 2 mythtv mythtv 16384 Mar 16 07:55 lost+found
drwxrwxr-x 2 mythtv mythtv 4096 Mar 16 08:08 music
drwxr-xr-x 15 root root 4096 Mar 28 08:30 mythburn
drwxrwxr-x 8 mythtv mythtv 4096 Aug 31 2005 nuv2disc
drwxr-xr-x 2 mythtv mythtv 4096 Mar 28 11:17 pretty
drwxrwxrwx 2 mythtv mythtv 4096 Mar 22 18:43 stream
drwxrwxr-x 2 mythtv mythtv 4096 Mar 16 18:10 tmp
drwxrwxr-x 2 mythtv mythtv 12288 Mar 28 11:17 tv
drwxrwxr-x 4 mythtv mythtv 4096 Mar 26 19:17 video

And i have my old recordings on the tv directory.

Now on this new installation i can't see my old recordings just the new recordings..!!???

I also lost all my schedules (don't know if this is normal, this is my first upgrade, this is not a problem).

Questions:

What is the correct directory for the video storage ?

How can i see my old recordings ?

Did you backup before you upgraded R5B7?

Backup what ?

as far as i know the upgrade just overwrite /dev/hda1 ( the root filesystem) and since i don't have any thing worth saving there i just let it go.. (there was something that i have to save ?)

before you do an upgrade you are supposed to go to the knoppmyth menu and click on backup.

 I don't quite know whether to be aghast or ROFLMAO... :|

There's just no nice way to say this. You utterly roached the upgrade. At this point the best move is probably to back those NUV files up to another machine and do a clean install. After it's done move them back to /myth/tv and see this thread for your next steps: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9299

Cecil's instruction are pretty clear on this point: http://www.mysettopbox.tv/doc.html#autoupgrade

**NOTE** You must have performed a backup for Auto Upgrade to work.
The backup in question is the one you can run either from the KnoppMyth menu in the GUI, or from the command line as root - /usr/local/bin/mythbackup. The morning after R5B7 was released I posted some hints about how to upgrade painlessly, and have been posting links to them everytime someone brings the topic up, in the hope that everyone would see them: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9069

bummer about your stuff in tv/

question though for those in know ;)

if one was to move all of those orphans from tv/ to somewhere under video/, is there
a way to have them just picked up and playable with a minimum of muss and fuss? albeit
without the names, times and all that good stuff.

Yes, moving the files under video and scanning for new videos (under utlities I think) should let you see them, but without the other information.

I still strongly recommend a reinstall. The upgrade process doesn't do the normal DB initialization because it assumes it's going to restore old data from the backup and then upgrade it to the current schema revision. You can end up with some really funky settings and weird problems as a result. It's far better to start from a "known good" state.
