Post subject: | Transcoding problem - sound removed |
Basics: Using 30.2 and a 350. Onboard sound. P933. Recording fine, playback fine. Desire to remove commericals to burn to disc leads to loading cutlist within MythTV and manually editing cutpoints and following directions from the wiki on transcoding: http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=VideoEditHowTo Transcode completes after about 15 minutes to an hour, depending on file size. Video quality is great, but there is now no sound when played back within MythTV. All setting for transcoders are at default settings. What am I missing? Should I just use nuvexport to cut commericals? I'd rather stick to the mythtv frontend interface, and I haven't messed with nuvexport yet. Rather stick to the KISS rule. |

Hmm...that doesn't fill me with confidence about solving the problem thru upgrading... Same exact problem? Out of curiosity, do you also have your 350 sending the audio and video out to TV? Just trying to make things as clear as possible for those that can help us ![]() |

Glad you found the problem, man, but my original post question remains. Ideas on how to troubleshoot or things to try? |

I had this issue with my PVR-350, no sound after transcoding using the default transcoding settings. I was able to resolve the issue by changing the transcoding setting to use MPEG4 instead of using the default, RTJC>MPEG2 (or whatever it is called) Not sure if this will work for burning to DVD, but it did fix my no sound problem for watching recordings. |

Thanks for the reply, Tone. When you say, "changing the default transcoding setting," how do you do that? I know about the transcoding settings under Recording Profiles (two are listed for me: "from RTjpeg/MPEG4" and "from MPEG2"), but it does not show which one is being used when I manually start the transcoding process within mythtv frontend. Or, did you mean changing the setting within the "from MPEG2" transcoder to transcode to MPEG4? It was already set to MPEG4 for me. |

Just checking, but you do realise that if you transcode from MPEG2 to MPEG4, and play it back, it will no longer be played back through the PVR350 hardware? It will be played back through the system sound card instead. This could explain the problem if you were taking your sound out direct from the PVR350 instead of via the sound card (recommended). |

I meant changing the transcoding settings within the "from MPEG2" and/or within "from RTjpeg/MPEG4." I have my sound coming from the PVR-350 and loop it back into the sound card and then out from the sound card. When I first setup my transcoding, the default wasn't set to MPEG4 and when I played it back there was no sound. After I changed the transcoding setting to MPEG4 the sound worked. |

I tested it on my PC and they do, in fact, have sound - though it is a bit out of sync. I play with it a bit and see what I can do. I was unaware that transcoding to mpeg4 made the audio go through the sound card. Thanks for that tip, nick. Once again, you help me out. Also, thanks tone, for the clarification. Perhaps I will set mine up like that as well. |
