Post subject: | Transcodeing from ISO to xvid |
Hi, I'm starting to run low on space on my HD and would like to change some of the ISO files I have to xvid. Ideally I'd like to do this from the command line, so I can write a shell script to do a few at a time. I have searched around and can't seem to find a command line use of transcode that would do this. Is there a way to do this? Cheers Victor |

Do you mean NUV files? ISO files are images of DVD (or CD'S), you cannot directly convert them to XVID. |

NUV files are not a problem. The files I am referring to are DVDs that I have ripped to ISO, and now would like to have a lower size. I could go through the process of putting the DVDs back into the mythtv box and ripping them again to a lower quality, but that is a bunch of manual intervention I was trying to avoid. What I notice is that the MTD ripps from the DVD first to a temporary dir/file then does the first and second pass. What would be a solution would extract the ISO to a temproary file, then run the transcode against that (or the ISO directly) instead of a DVD. I have a dozen or more DVDs that I have put into storage because I had ripped them to the HD, but with space getting short, I thought I would just transcode the image to a lower quality. Victor |

Well, I'm moving forward I think: I just remembered that I can mount the ISO file as a temporary directory: Code: mount -o loop -t iso9660 file.iso /mnt/test
Once that is done, is there a way to run the MTD against the mounted ISO, and use the default settings? Victor |

Looks like this article may help with converting VOB files to XVID: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8249 |

jammad, Thanks for pointing me to that script! While not exactly what I was hoping for, it will definitely automate a lot of the process ![]() Victor |
