Has anyone every seen anything like this before. I am able to import a dvd in myth and then when I try to import an other one it will start get about 5 to 10 minutes in. Then will just quit and give you the screen as if it was done but it isn't. I am using 5BR7.

Had the same issue... seems to be a problem with the MTD, which is notoriously finicky...

Some DVDs have encryption on them, those DVDs will crap out when importing. If you are lucky enough to live in a country that permits CSS circumvention then you may want to search on how to work around CSS.

Hi,

I'm having a the same problem: I try to rip to ISO, it looks like it is completed and then the file disappears, even with CSS enabled.

It does not happen on all DVDs though, and I can't find any commonality between which discs rip and which don't.

Any thoughts?

Victor

Guys, Cecil has asked that we not discuss DVD encryption issues here. If you're wondering why, searching for "lawyer", "lawsuit", "DMCA" will turn up any number of previous explainations.

My appologies. The last thing I would ever want to do is put anyone in that position. I value the contributions of the Myth and KnoppMyth developers far too much.

Having said that, I think encryption may be a red herring anyway. My thoughts were actually moving towards problems with mplayer or xine.

I opened mythfrontend command in a console and the sent output to a file, and what I saw was errors related to fonts, and a reference to "invalid IFO for title 5"

I did have some issues installing MythStream and reinstalled mplayer, which included the "font-arial-iso-8859-1" package.

In the capture of the mythfrontend command output there was a message complaining about the correct use of xine, and printing out the help.

I have associated the following players the following way:

Default Player:
mplayer -fs -zoom -quiet -vo %s

VIDEO_TS
mplayer -fs -zoom -quiet -vo xv -dvd-device %s dvd://

ISO
xine -pfhq -no-splash dvd://%s

I am not sure if the switches/arguments are correct. I coppied the xine command from a thread on this BBS, and the other was the default settings.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Victor

you can find out what one you are using from the settings menu.

It's ok to talk about ripping dvd's as long as you leave out the red hearing we've already mentioned.

interesting update on this issue. I build my system to the dragon specs. The only difference is that I used SATA drives and followed the instructions doing a manual install. I unhooked my SATA drive and put in just normal IDE drive and now I can import DVD's without any issues and my Watch TV works also it didn't before. There must be some kind of issue with the harddrive drivers for SATA. Just thought I would left everyone know.

an update for anyone who is using SATA drives. If you are using the newest version of knoppmyth I would someone who posted on here a link to his system that he build and under phase 1 on his instructions he tells you to make a change to the knoppmyth-sata config file. This fixed my issue I am no longer having issue transcodeing DVD's.

Here is the link to his post.

Here is the relevant stuff:
Quote:
This next bit is to fix a bug in the knoppmyth-sata file on the CD. The correct HD_MAP line in the SATA configuration file is commented out. If you do not do this part, your big fat partition 4 (intended for /myth) for recordings will never be used for recordings!

ALT-F2 to get a new terminal

cp /KNOPPIX/knoppmyth-sata /

vi /knoppmyth-sata

Uncomment the line #HD_MAP with /cache on sda3 and /myth on sda4
Comment out the line HD_MAP with sda3 on /myth only
Save and exit

ALT-F1 to go back to the install

Odd thing is, I thought the current version does away with the /cache filesystem. Why would this advice still be needed if there is no /cache?
