Is there a way I can make it so the ESC key doesn't exit live TV? I've mapped the F5 and F6 keys to go to the Main Menu and Live TV using jump points. I would like to prevent ESC from exiting Live TV and would like only to use Main Menu (F5) to exit Live TV. Although, I would still like ESC to exit the Program Guide, get out of the Watch Videos menu, exit OSD, etc. I'm not talking about just remapping ESC to another key in lircrc, but to actually get ESC to not exit out of Live TV. Basically, I'd like to remap the MythTV buttons (not the remote buttons), but mythweb doesn't seem to get this specific. It has a global setting for ESC, but how do I make it so ESC doesn't exit Live TV (this is the only thing I want to prevent ESC from doing). I know I've repeated the same thing over and over, but it may be hard to understand what I would like to do. Thanks.

Only by modifying the source I would guess, since Escape/exit is a global concept. You could try redefining the Esc key to do something else within live TV but even then I guess the global definition would take precedence.

How could I go about modifying the source? Or, How could I remap ESC, and take it out as a global setting, and then remap it only in certain areas? Would this also be a matter of modifying the source?

look at the sticky on building the R5B7 debs.

After you build the debs, just pop in to the directories containing the source files that you
want to tinker with, back them up and tinker away. In that directory just do a make and replace
the library after backing it up. It will just recompile necessary files and use the existing object
files leftover from when you built the debs.

Stuff I've read since suggests that the local key definition takes precedence over the global, so redefining Esc to do something else within Live TV should work....

Well its been a while but I've finally found time and found out how to use Webmin to play with the keybindings. I have redefined an Esc keylist to work within TV Playback (I just set it up to take action INFO), but the Global context takes precedence. According to the keybindings, I cannot delete the Global ESCAPE action either so as to only use the TV Playback Esc keylist. I'm not sure about the deb approach yet - we'll see if I get to this. Thanks guys for the help.

Hi
Why not go into the utilities / setup and set the esc to be control esc to exit? Then it is a deliberate action of pressing two keys to get to the desktop and not do able with a remote. I uncheck the confirm question as that is a M$ thing, "are you sure, really sure?" I always loved the "syntax error, OK"

Mike

Thanks for the feedback Mike, but you're describing a different situation. I already have it set as you described. I'm talking about exiting LiveTV to get to the MythTV Menu screen, not exiting MytTV Menu screen to get to the desktop.

It's been a long time, but I thought I'd post back that I figured out how to do this. I had given up a while back, but was just today playing around and found out.

When I previously remapped Esc to do the ACTION INFO in TV Playback, it didn't work because INFO means nothing in TV Playback (I thought it was because the global settings were taking precedence). However, I found that the local settings actually do take precedence over the global settings when I remapped Esc in TV Playback to do something that actually exists -- CLEAROSD. Now, Esc in TV Playback just clears the OSD rather than actually exiting LiveTV. Thought I'd just post back to clear it up -- nickread was right. Thanks.
