I did some searching on the forum, however, I couldn't find anything on external USB drives.

Is it possible to utilize my external USB DVD burner? My system did not seem to recognize it. I am on R5A30.

I have had great success with Myth, so far.

I always use my external DVD drive to install/upgrade knoppmyth on my box. I have never burned a disk from knoppmyth though.

I assume you just need to update the symblic link to /dev/cdrom to point at the USB drive and it should work. Or somthing like that.
