Verizon isn't advertising this very well, so I thought I'd post and let people know that I got the 15Mbps symmetric FiOS service recently, and it rocks. Seeding the R5F27 ISO is fun  Cost in my area is $70/month, though I've heard it's $65 in some areas.

Thanks for the tip. I just upgraded mine to 15/15 There are some steeper discounts for new customers too. 1st month free 2-7 months $55 8+ months $65 Too bad Verizon doesn't enable FireWire output on their STBs or I would have ordered TV too. |

If they don't, then they're violating an FCC regulation: http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422 ... 76.640.pdf You can demand a STB with usable firewire and cite 47 CFR 76.640(b)(4)(ii) if they don't do it. |

The satellite providers are also exempted from providing firewire outputs or cablecard slots for their STBs. It's sad, but you can only demand a firewire connection from cable providers like Commiecast. |

But I found head of the FCC's email address and emailed him. Can't hurt to to tell them taxpayers appreciate the FCC's work. I knew the satellite providers were exempt because, well, space is outside the jurisdiction of the FCC, but I was under the impression that Verizon was still bound by the same digital cable laws. This seems to support that: http://www.multichannel.com/article/CA6464393.html They're asking the FCC for an extension on their Cablecard implementation, which it doesn't seem that they'd do if the FCC didn't regulate them. |

OBTW - Point of terminology, only the legislators (elected congressmen and senators) legislate (pass laws), appointed bureaucrats like the FCC commissioners regulate (create rules and regulations) within the scope set out by those laws. It might seem like a minor distinction but it's the type of thing people like that are _acutely_ conscious of and even prickly about. |

I may be getting somewhere on the FIOS firewire issue. I recieved a FCC complaint case number and spoke with a Verizon rep that was willing to listen and escalated the issue internally with the info Human provided. |

It'd be awesome if we could get the new-fangled IPTV providers to follow the same rules and give us a firewire output port. My provider (Paxio) doesn't have IPTV yet, but I can't complain about my internet speed... 100/100  
P.S. You have no idea how hard it is to find a firewall/router that will sustain that speed! |
