This could make for a pretty economical HDTV mythtv box. Most recent proprietary ATI video drivers seem to support the video.

Maybe it's just me.

I've tried on three occasions to build a system based on an ECS motherboard. All three ended in abject failure. In each case I swapped processor, memory, powersupply, and motherboard to see if it was a failed component. So far I'm 0 for 3 attempts, so I pretty much avoid the brand now.

But maybe it's just me!

I've never had a problem with them (although my sample size is small . . . just one board), however, it was suggested to me to avoid the proprietary ATI drivers for now. I was directed to look into the radeonhd driver project, but that driver has issues too.

I have had luck with ECS boards. My main backend is a ECS based system. Looks like a good deal for a cheap frontend board. Luckily this board has a PCI Express x16 slot if you want to change to a different video solution.

Based on my experience, avoid ECS.

Whew. Maybe it's NOT just me, then... (I was beginning to wonder.)

Nope it isn't... I wouldn't build a ECS system for my worst enemy.

I guess I am in the minority here then. Both myself (Knoppmyth) and my brother in law (Mythbuntu) have Mythtv systems built on ECS boards. I even have the cousin of ECS...PCChips...as a FreeNas Box.
