It's not hard to get raid, what with today's motherboards having it built in (well, all the ones I've seen).

Also, we should all note that a quick performance boost can be achieved with adding noatime to the /myth entry of /etc/fstab.
Changing /myth to xfs is a bit harder (have to reformat) but would help a lot, too with recordings. It's annoying that deleting a recording causes a high performance SATA disk to be churning away for up to 5 seconds, affecting what you're watching.

I was investigating linux FS choices a few months ago. This guy's conclusion is the same as the others.
