1 night last week I was board and working on my systems. At one point that night I restarted all my systems and each system including my mythbox, desktop and laptop which wasn't even plugged in, all had BIOS problems. All the systems had BIOS corruption problems and the BIOS was forced back to default settings. What would cause this? There was an explosion at a propane plant 10KM away that rocked my house like small earthquake. Could this be the problem? |

I read somewhere about the difference between EEC and nonEEC memory and the reason the article gave for the error checking memory is 'space particles.' I forget the exact definition but these cosmic rays can cause errors in memory by changing a 0 to a 1 or the other way around. You could have been unlucky and got hit by a bunch of them and it knocked all you BIOS ram sideways? Quite unlikely tho I would have thought. Or the explosion, could've unsettled everything I suppose, could it have cause a small electrical spike? |

It sounds to me like the small battery that powers your CMOS RAM has died. That's usually what causes the "wiped" CMOS at boot. It's odd that more than one computer had the same symptom, tho. |
