I have a pundit-s that has a very old bios (1002) with ez flash 1.00. I have tried to update by d/l the latest bios (1011.001) and loading this onto a usb stick and entering the flash utility. I either get the "Warning! Device not ready" prompt if I insert the usb stick after starting the ez flash 1.00 utility, or nothing happens if I boot with the usb stick inserted and key in the bios to use in the utility. Either way, I'm at a dead end. I've even tried using the bios utility on the Pundit-s page from a bootable USB stick, after disabling all but USB to boot from the bios... to no avail. The utility wont run. I've also tried similar to the above, but from the DVD drive, but no love. Any and all suggestions welcome. TIA |

Just a thought How about trying a usb floppy drive and see if that works? Sometimes bios upgrades can be a bit cranky... |

I've used a variation of this method for a while now. In my method I use a FDD image and 'dd' it to a usb stick. First, get the FDD image. Next mount it rw on a loop device Code: $ sudo mount -o loop,rw /path/to/FDD.img /mount/point Then cp your flash utility and uncompressed BIOS file to the /mount/point. Code: $ sudo umount /mount/point Then dd the image to your usb stick. Code: $ sudo dd if=image.img of=/dev/sd[x] where x is the proper device for your usb disk.
You may have to use fdisk or cfdisk to mark the USB stick bootable, but I really don't recall. I'm doing this all from memory, so the steps may not be exact. I did this as recently as a couple months ago. Keep in mind your image size is limited to 1.44MB. You have to pick and choose what you copy to the image or you'll get errors due to lack of "space." |

I keep a FreeDOS CD around for stuff like this, It's worked for at least 3-4 different machines now. |

thanks all! I ended up remastering a freedos cd with my bios files and got it working and flashed it straight away. Probably the most difficult and backwards way, but the usb was just not working. |

You don't even need to remaster. Once FreeDoS is booted you can pop the CD and put in another one, or even read from other devices like a USB drive. I've used the same FreeDos CD with multiple different BIOS images that way. |

Yeah, I tried the usb and cd after a FreeDos boot. Just couldn't read either, my dos-fu is very weak these days. Last dos I really played with was M$ 5.0. |
