Since that one is expired, I'm currently being tempted by this deal, not quite as good ($0.4375/Gb rather than $0.4233.../Gb) but but I'm down to one PATA connector in the new box and still have 4 free SATA connectors... (BTW - this is supposed to be one of the new generation WD drives with fluid dynamic bearings which run much cooler and quieter...)

I dunno, tjc. I'm glad to see WD offering a 3 year warranty, but it's hard to beat that Seagate 5-yr warranty. Plus, all of my WD drives in the past seem to last only a little longer than their (previous) 1 year warranty! We had a 300G Seagate fail at work within the warranty period and they gave us back a 400G (probably because they were embarrassed their drive failed in a couple of months).

I like and generally recommned the Seagates too, but drive reliability is a religous war topic like vi/emacs. Even I'm smart enough not to go there. ;-)

At the moment around here I've got...
Seagate - 3
IBM/Hitachi - 2
Western Digital - 2
All the machines are on 24x7 with good APC UPSes between them and the slings and arrows of the local grid. The workstation and the old clunker currently show uptimes of 82 days. The old clunker (1 HDS and 1(a bit newer) WD) has been running more or less continuously for ~7 years now... YMMV.

Besides, I was thinking about getting two of them and using the Nforce3 builtin 0+1 raid capability... ;-)

tjc I will pray for you that you got a decent pair of IBM drives. I cringe at work whenever I see one of those.

They're both good ones, one from before and one from after the "deathstar" fiasco. As I mentioned the one has been running continuously for ~7 years with no problems. Before the Deskstar QA problems the IBM drives were supposed to be the most reliable ones out there, and so far I've got no complaints.
