Hello,

I've just done an auto-install of R5 and am having trouble getting the pvr350 output to work. I copied the XF86Config-4.pvr350-tvout.example to XF86Config-4, set the mouse, set the fbdev to /dev/fb0 (which I got from "dmesg|grep ^fb") and set the BusID to 0:0x05:0 (which I got from lspci). However, when I run startx I get the error:
(EE) FBDEV(0): FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO: Invalid argument
(EE) FBDEV(0): Mode init failed

Any ideas what I need to do to get this resolved? And is there by any chance a script or something to configure the pvr350, ie: some way to get it to configure automatically?

Thanks!

What version of ivtv are you using? And do you use ivtvdev or fbdev as the driver for X?

Thanks for the reply. I'm using whatever comes with R5. There's an ivtv-0.1.10-pre2... I assume that's the driver. The R5 sample XF86Config-4 for pvr350 that I started from uses fbdev.

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to add something to /etc/modules, but when I run lsmod it looks like ivtv, and a bunch of related drivers are loaded.

Hello,
From what it sounds like to me, you may need to make sure that you add ivtv-fb to /etc/modules. Also I discovered that on my system (which also uses /dev/fb0 for the pvr-350) I needed to do the following to make sure it the fb will work (as root):
rm –f /dev/fb0
mknod /dev/fb0 c 29 0
chmod 666 /dev/fb0

Also, I had to make my etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv file look like this:

# This is for WinTV PVR-350 IVTV
alias char-major-61 lirc_i2c
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 ivtv
options ivtv debug=1
options tuner type=2
options saa7127 enable_output=1 output_select=0
options msp3400 once=1 simple=1
add below ivtv msp3400 saa7115 saa7127 tuner
add above ivtv lirc_dev lirc_i2c ivtv-fb
post-install ivtv /usr/local/bin/test_ioctl -d /dev/video0 -u 0x3000
post-install ivtv /usr/local/bin/test_ioctl -d /dev/video16 -u 0x3000
post-install ivtv /usr/local/bin/test_ioctl -d /dev/video32 -u 0x3000
post-install ivtv /usr/local/bin/test_ioctl -d /dev/video224 -u 0x3000

output_select=1 is if you want to use s-video (as opposed to composite). Don't forget to do an update-modules. I hope this helps.

Do you mean R4V5? If you're using R5, I have no basis of comparison, since it hasn't been released to the general public yet.

Juz10MAC makes some good suggestions. I'll just suplement them by suggesting you go to http://ivtv.writeme.ch/tiki-index.php?page=TvOutHowto and see some good instructions on getting tvout done for a PVR-350. Those instructions aren't specific to KnoppMyth, so there may be some unnecessary steps.
