Alright, i'm fairly new to the whole byopvr scene .. but I'm fairly old school to sat testing and xbox scenes... the real trouble i'm having here is not having much linux experience.

Let me start with my machine specs:

ECS PM800-M2 Mother Board with On Board Video/Audio/Lan/SATA/Raid
Intel Celeron D 320 (2.4Ghz) CPU
512 mb PC3200 ram
MSI Radeon 9250
Hauppapauge PVR-250
120 gb HD as primary ide drive (not using SATA).

As for my primary signal input, i'll be using a Bell Express Vu 3100 IRD using S-Video.

Okay, my progress so far ....

The first time I tried to install It stopped shortly after entering in user information ... after going through the docs I realized that my main HD was plugged into an pci raid controller I was using for multiple drives. Wanting to strip down anything that might complicate my install I removed anything that might give me grief and resorted to the most basic of configurations. The next time I went through the install I had to move my PVR-250 up a couple PCI slots to ensure it was using the slot with Bus Mastering (as per the trouble shooting docs). Anyway,

I've managed to install KnoppMyth R5 Alpha 9 from the cd. Now the problem i'm having going through the initial Mythtv setup is a lack of Input Connections. I've setup my capture card (although I'm unsure of exactly which video device to use ... whether it's /dev/video or /dev/video0, any good way to check? I have also setup the Video source to use my zap2it account and download program guides .. that all works just fine ... The problem i'm having is when I click on LiveTV .. i get a black screen ... and have no way out other than hitting ctrl+alt+f1, logging in and rebooting (if there is another way someone please enlighten me!!).

So i guess my question is, how do i find out which /dev/video* device my capture card is, and how do I install Input Connections to insure it's capturing the SVideo port?

man .. i think i may just go back to gbpvr heh .. i feel so much more comfortable in windows....

video and video0 are one in the same. to use svid input all you should have to do is make sure that you associated your video source with the correct svid entry under input connections in the mythtv-setup (where you did the zap2 it stuff) and of course the other issue is that you are going to have to figure out some way of controlling the sat box either via irblaster or serial connection.

You can always press ¨C¨, while watching TV, to change inputs on TV Tuner card. If you have more than one capture card, pressing ¨Y¨ switch capture cards.
