I have one, embaressing question:

If I'm running a Windows XP Machine and I put the Knopp Myth CD in my drive and boot from it, what happens? Will it install KnoppMyth as a second operating system that I choose from which to boot every time or does it run without any sort of OS install.

Sorry in advance for my stupidity.

neither it wipes the drive and installs as the only os on the drive, or it can run a frontend from the cd, but that doesn't work without a properly configured backend.

So is there a way to test MythTV without destroying my WinXP install?

I was thinking if I could partition my drive then somehow run KnoppMyth to wipe the partition and install it there, would that work? But I can't even remember how to do this it's been so long. Any instruction would be greatly appreciated.

Save yourself the trouble and buy a hard-disk for testing. You are going to want all the storage you can get when you decide that knoppmyth is the ants pants.

I've tried (with some success) to install a box to dual boot windows and knoppmyth. Though it is possible with the expert install option, don't try it unless you know linux admin really well and have made backups of everything on the machine first.

In the end I agree with using two drives. If you really want to be able to switch between both OS's you might look into a swappable drive carrier that will let you swap between the two hard drives easily.

There was a key I could press during the boot so that the bios would show a boot menu. I jcould select which disk to boot from using this menu. I had windows 2000 on one drive and Knoppmyth on hda.
