First, I am a Newbie, I installed KnoppMyth (autoinstall) for my first time a week ago. I would never be as far as I am without this forum and the wiki, KnoppMyth rocks. After several (re)installs and many hours of reading (mainly because I know nothing about Linux) I have it running with:

Intel P4 2.8GHz/845 based MB, 512MB RAM, 2x80GB HDDs,
K-Wold BT878 based TV card (Thanks cesman!):
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=40
and fighting the conventional ATI Video=bad wisdom,
ATI 9600 AGP video card w/TV-out at 1024x768 (Thanks tjimenez87!):
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3279

No matter what I try or do, I can't seem to get the ATI Remote Wonder working. Searched and read/tried everything I can find, for example:
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=ATIRemote
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... lircatiusb

I have remote model number: 5000015900A (B is the receiver), and amazingly this is what is called out in my lircd.conf (part of some detection?). In lircd.conf it mentions that without adding the unique=1 setting on module load (which I don't know how to do...more reading/learning needed), the remote must be set to "channel 1". I hooked the revceiver up to a M$ box and used the ATI RW software to a) check that it was working and b) make sure the remote was set to channel 1, all of which checked out.

output of
dmesg | grep lirc

Code:
lirc_dev: IR Remote Control driver registered, at major 61
lirc_atiusb: USB remote driver for LIRC v0.4
lirc_atiusb: Paul Miller <pmiller9@users.sourceforge.net>
lirc_dev: lirc_register_plugin: sample_rate: 0
lirc_atiusb[2]: X10 Wireless Technology Inc USB Receiver on usb1:2
usbcore: registered new driver lirc_atiusb
lirc_atiusb[2]: usb remote disconnected
lirc_dev: lirc_register_plugin: sample_rate: 0
lirc_atiusb[3]: X10 Wireless Technology Inc USB Receiver on usb1:3

Not sure what above means or if it is helpful, but "usb remote disconnected" doesn't seem to be a good message. If I reboot without the USB receiver attached the dmesg output is as follows:

Code:
lirc_dev: IR Remote Control driver registered, at major 61
lirc_atiusb: USB remote driver for LIRC v0.4
lirc_atiusb: Paul Miller <pmiller9@users.sourceforge.net>
usbcore: registered new driver lirc_atiusb

I take the difference to mean that it at least sees the receiver when it's plugged in.

Also, read somewhere that the ATI RW may start working after several reboots...no dice yet and I have rebooted this system ~20 times. What else should I be looking at? Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks in advance!

Just went through almost exactly the same experience. I was able to get the remote to work somewhat saying no at the lirc_recofigure.sh script and using the ati_remote module.

Turns out I was trying to use a corrupted lircd.conf from the download on the Wiki site:
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=ATIRemote

Ended up making a new lircd.conf by doing a cut & paste from this link:
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7382

All is well now (well at least with the remote).

Thanks, created a new lircd.conf from your link as well as trying to create a new shoter "optimzied" version of the original lircd.conf. I did notice the remote "key" codes were different. No luck with either of these.

I think I read about a utility that would let you see the raw data coming from the remote...maybe that was the kernel driver. Anyway, off to try and find out if there is a way to view the raw data.

Are you talking about irrecord? irrecord is what I would suggest using to create a new lircd.conf file. There are a few diffrent lircd.conf files out there for the Remote Wonder models. Maybe check out what is on the official lirc website as well.

Figured it out...clearly a newbie mistake. I was convinced that the lircd.conf in the /etc/lirc directory controlled the remote. It is really the one in the /etc directory.

The irrecord tip led me to irw where I saw that my remote was working and my changes to the /etc/lirc/lircd.conf were not doing anything.

Thanks for the patience and help!
