Is there an alternative to installing xmms without using apt-get, similar to the procedure for firefox outlined at the bottom of this post?

I went in and commented out the unstable urls in /etc/apt/sources.list, but then could not locate xmms. Putting the unstable url back in allowed me to run apt-get install xmms, but the required dependencies borked gdm, and I had to reinstall. Is there a stable url where xmms can be downloaded that I'm not seeing perhaps?
