For some reason, I cannot get audio to play. If I play a cd through MythTV, I can hear the drive spin up, but no audio. I can play it in the Xine media player, the visualization shows up and it acts like its playing, but no sound. I have a Soyo Dragon 2 motherboard with VIA onboard audio.

Secondly, I cannot get DVD's to play. in MythTV, some box quickly pops up then goes away. Outside of MythTV, in the Xine player, it says "there is no input plugin available to handle 'dvd:/'"

Any ideas? :(

Are you tring to get sound of out a digital out or an headphone/speaker jacks on your sound card? Have you checked both of them? Also are you under setting then setup then general using /dev/adsp or /dev/adsp. I would try using the adsp one that seems to work for most people. Aslo try to turn off "use internal volume controls.

Hope that helps.

This is a simple, onboard audio, using the speaker out jack, no digital.

I will check the adsp setting here in a little bit and let you know.

Thanks!

Checked the adsp thing, no change.

I really need some assistance in getting this to play DVD's and play audio as soon as possible.

The audio is weird, because it looks like its playing, but there is no sound, and I cannot load the mixer.

FOr DVD's Xine (99.3), it say "there is no input plugin available to handle 'dvd:/'" and after I click that away, another box pops up, reading "make sure you have access to the dvd drive and that the dvd is in the drive".

I ran xine-check, and it said everythign was "good", but i noted that both my cd and dvd were pointed to "dev/hdd", whereas I think the dvd drive should be pointing to 'hdc'.

Help? :?

Edit: I am trying to play the Shrek DVD. Can Xine play protected DVD's? If not, how can I set it up so that it will? I am new to Linux, so easy to do steps would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

Edit2: Spent some time searching, found this: http://hanna.homedns.org/projects/mythtv_box/knoppmyth/main.html#dvd. Now, I MythTV looks like it wants to play DVD's... but its trying to use my CD player to do so... How can I make it use the correct drive?

So are you playing DVD's. Second do you have to drives in your system or just one if just one and it is starting to play then you should be fine. Also are you getting your sound to work.

I had similar problem w/sound on cd. 1.) changed tha appropriate /dev directory ownership from root to mythtv; 2.) ran alsamixer and "captur"-ed the Line (highlight Line and press space bar), then set vol to mute. CDs now play nicely through system sound.

DVDs seem to be a problem: Can get the FBI warning but it stops there.
