During the install (non-upgrade) of R5C7 on my machine I'm stuck at a "Bus error" message that displays during the initial install scripts.

My system as currently configured:
Duron 1300
512M Ram
160GB HD
Haupage 150 MCE
ATI TV Wonder Remote
nVidia mx440 (lscpi shows mx4000)

I had initial problems loading the nVidia divers and used the manual method as suggested on the list. That worked after a few gyrations! On rebooting after the video module was built the system went into X and started the preinstall scripts normally... But during this process is where "Bus error" started to show. When I try to start mythtv-setup manually I also get a "Bus error" ... any suggestions? - Also, this machine / configuration ran R5B7 prefectly so I haven't really suspected "bad" hardware.

Thanks!

Possible bad burn. Boot from the CD adding the "testcd" option to the boot command and make sure that it gives the CD a clean bill of health.

You're not using a motherboard with a Via chipset are you? See the sticky "Hardware to Avoid" post under the hardware forum. More detailed hardware information would be good... See below for an example.

No Via motherboard here.... but, while it's not on the "Hardware to Avoid" list, I did happen to leave a Via (vt6202 chipset) USB card in one of the PCI slots when I -tried- to build the MythTV box this time. I pulled it and - Viola! - I would not say this controller is problem hardware as I've used it for quite some time without issue but, in the case if the Knoppmyth, the two don't like each other. humph.

Thanks for the suggestion!
