I've tried using apt-get to install codecs to get some XviD avi files to play with no success. I'll take the fact that I couldn't find any sources that had the packages as a sign that I was on the wrong path.

Have any of you achieved playback of XviD avi files that are otherwise stubborned on a base KnoppMyth install?

Surprised that your xvid files don't play with the vanilla installed MPlayer. Any ideas what is so special about these files ?

Would it be unorthodox to post a link to one of them here? I would like to have others check it out?

If not: How about a link to a personal blog entry that linked to it?

The link is fine as long as you aren't linking to copywritten material.

I have played XviD files out of the box fine.

How about any of the XviD content off www.revision3.com

It is copy written which is why I asked. So I'm wondering if I can say add it to bronosky.com/pub a few directories deep and invite other to go find it.

It's not there now, and I wouldn't leave it there very long for fear of...

I'm just really wondering why I can play some XviD movies and not these. I've read that a lot of people are having trouble with this one file, but others can get it to play... on Windows.

There will be no further public discussion of this. If someone choose to help then he or she should contact you privately. I don't mean use PM to discuss this either.

Let's respect Cecil's wishes and not post replies or private messages regarding sharing files even for troubleshooting purposes.

Anyone who may have been interested should contact me privately via "my first name at my last name dot com".

Thanks for understanding. :) It may simply be a matter of upgrading upgrading xvid. The next release will have the latest xvid.
