I am new to myth and linux. I am using a gforce video card, I was trying to get tv out to work by:
cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /etc/X11/XF86Config.orig
cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.nvidia-tvout.sample /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

when I rebooted, once knoppmyth loads my monitor (or tv, I've tried both) goes black and says no signal. I can see the display fine while it is booting.

What should I do to get any display at all, and also what should I do to make it display tv out properly without damaging my tv?

Thanks
-Zack

Can you be more specific about the video card and what version of KnoppMyth?

Have you tried the X config sample for Nvidia FX5200s on the wiki?

There are also troubleshooting pages on the wiki with lots of good hints.

I'm using R5D1, not sure exactly which nvidia card, I've tried the sample Nvidia config that comes with the installation, I've tried the sample config in the FX5200 wiki article (including the suggestion to copy it to config rather than config-4), I've tried all the different options mentioned in the wiki guide for setting up for tv. Should I try re-installing knoppmyth with my tv connected? I noticed that it detected my monitor and put in the correct model name.

Thanks
-Zack

Once you use that sample, it won't work for a monitor. It will only output to a TV via SVIDEO.

If you're using an Nvidia card, search for "TwinView". Among other places there are samples in my original (Shuttle based) Tier 2 posting thread. I've done this so I know it works (or used to), but I doubt very much you'll be satisfied with the results.
