Ok this is my situation.

Just upgraded to mythtv 0.19 and using ivtv 0.4.2
Using a cale box and have lirc working fine to change channels.

Seems Every time I boot up I have to manually set my pvr250 to channel 3 using

ivtv-tune -c 3

otherwise I have snow, no matter how I set up mythtv-setup

How can I set this up so everytime the backend gets started its automatically set to channel 3?

Under the Connection mapping that associates your "Video Source" with your Tuner use the "preset channell to:" field. Worst comes to worst you can actually make your channel changing script use the ivtv tuning utility to do that before sending the IR signals.

Thanks eviltwin. I'll give your suggestions a try and post back.

I searched before posting and dont see anyone else having this problem So I find it a little odd I have to do something special like this. My hadware is pretty mainstream (pvr 250 nforce3 mb gefoce6600 etc..)

Thanks again

Ok thanks again. Adding ivtv-tune -c 3 at the beggining of the channel change script did the trick. Adds a extra second or 2 to change channels but works.

Did you try setting the "Preset tuner to channel:" field to "3" first? That is the normal mechanism for doing this. Note that you may have to restart the backend for some of these settings to take effect... Oh, and you did only associate the "Video Source" with "Tuner 0" right?

I sure did tjc. Video Source with tunner 0 is the only input I set in mythtv-setup And in there I definitly have Preset tuner to 3 and the only way I get anything is if I manually set it with ivtv-tune before starting the frontend. AND I need to do it anytime I start the backend.

Odd huh? Didn't need to do this with any previous versions of mythtv

I'd think about filing a bug report at the MythTV site...

Rather than changing the channel with each channel change via script, I have added the following line to the start) section of the /etc/rc5.d/S25mythtv-backend startup script:

ptune.pl -c 3

This is a sloppy workaround, but it only runs once at boot rather than at each channel change.

My cardinput table in the mythconverg database has the right value (channel 3 - type varchar(5) ), but the card does not seem to want to use this value.

Does anyone know at what point mythtv queries this value and makes the card tune?

The mysql logfile knows...
Code:
grep tunechan /var/log/mysql/mysql.log

when I run:
grep tunechan /var/log/mysql/mysql.log

I see in the log where the value was queried, but how can I use this information to determine which process requested this informatoin?

Hi everyone,

I seem to have just encountered the same problem with R5D1. Did this ever get logged? Your workaround saved the day for me, but it would be great if this were addressed formally - there's at least one other thread in the forums from people who saw the same thing...

Do you get snow and no menu at all without that modification? Or do you see normal commands and just snow where a tv show should appear?

I think I got the OSD properly (if that's what you mean by menu), just snow behind it . Again, forcing a channel tune to 3 after bootup seems to have taken care of the problem. Why the system is not doing this for me (I also set the default channel to 3, as described elsewhere in this thread), I do not know...
