I know this is not really a MythTV question but I am new to Linux and have so far failed to change things so that my UK keyboard works properly.

I have tried changing XF86Config-4 to have the following settings

Section "Input Device"
Option "XkbModel" "pc101"
Option "XkbLayout" "uk" Note I have also tried "gb"

In XF86Config I have changed the following

Section "Keyboard"
XkbModel "pc101"
XkbLayout "uk"

Can anyone give a Linux novice a bit of advice as I am currently strugling.

It might be worth trying the following:
The UK keyboard has extra keys. If you have a pre-Windows keyboard, replace the 105 with 102.

also make a link in /etc/console to uk.kmap.gz as follows

cd /etc/console
ln -sf /usr/share/keymaps/i386/qwerty/uk.kmap.gz boottime.kmap.gz

...reboot
