I just spent a bunch of time playing with settings in my XF86Config-4 file. Nomatter what I changed it didn't make any difference to the overscan of my pvr-350. I couldn't use xvidtune to test the modes either. But you can use it to see what settings you should change in the XF86Config-4 file. Has anybody gotten changes the monitor section to change the way the pvr-350 outputs? Here are my settings:
Code:
Section "Monitor"
        Identifier  "NTSC Monitor"
        HorizSync  30-68
        VertRefresh 60
        Mode "720x480"
          # D: 34.563 MHz, H: 36.00 kHz, V: 66.67 Hz
          DotClock 34.56
#                       hdisp   hsyncstart      hsyncend        htotal
          HTimings      720     752             840             928
#                       vdisp   vsyncstart      vsyncend        vtotal
          VTimings      480     484             488             504
          Flags    "-HSync" "-VSync"
        EndMode
EndSection

I tired increasing the htotal & vtotal. xvidtune implied that increasing thoes would shrink the height and width of the display. But nomatter what I put in there the display came up the same everytime.

I too have been tackling this problem.

I get the same error message in xvidtune.

I have attempted to adjust values in the X86Config-4 file, but they do not appear to make any change. Perplexing, as the log vile appears to indicate that it is indeed reading the data in this file.

 MADDENING!

Hey guys, don't know if anybody's tracking this subject. 2 developments, no solution yet:

1. I got an e-mail from somebody who sounded like they knew what they were talking about from the X windows mailing list. Here is the jist of it:

Xfree86@Xfree86.org wrote:
Overscan is usually a function of the TV encoder and not the
display hardware of the graphics chip. At least with the hardware
I have worked on, CRTC timings (what xvidtune sets) are ignored for
both TV and DVI outputs. Overscan functionality (at the hardware
level) looks like a knob on the TV encoder in the cases I've seen.
NVIDIA's binary drivers expose this knob with the "TVOverScan"
config file option or from their control panel. I don't know what
other vendors do, but it's a driver-specific feature. It's conceivable
that it's not possible to adjust the overscan with some TV encoders.

Therefore,

A. The Hauppauge PVR-350 must be physically capable of overscan, which I don't know; and
B. The IVTV drivers must be able to control this funtion.

2. The other piece of information: IVTV JUST CAME OUT WITH A NEW VERSION!! Version 8.1! Some new features in the changelog indicate specific attention to the Hauppauge cards, so THESE GUYS know what's up. I bet they have the answer. I'm going to contact them and see what they say.

Keepin' it Ninja,
