I find the closed captioning playback is kind of iffy. Mostly it's a timing issue where certain stuff isn't left on the screen long enough.

It's very frustrating when you're trying to figure out what someone said during a confusing bit of dialog, flip on CC, rewind, and the part you heard just fine displays for 5 seconds and the difficult bit blips on and off the screen in half a second...

I keep promising myself that someday I'll go look at the relevant code and try to patch it...

Hi,

Just as a quiz, does anyone have a 350 /150 combination to see if the encoding is occuring properly in the 150? Also the "T" only applies to the computer screen as if played out via a 350 (or maybe other cards to tv also) then monitor does the line 21 decoding.

Mike

hmm, if that's the case my idea to "open" the captions before it gets to the mythTV box is looking like a more reliable option.. however I still need to figure out how to program an IRblaster to change the channel on the decoder as if it were a cable box.

It seems to work fine for me, just as good as normal TV CC. It is even sometimes flaky there as well. I'll classify it as "good enough".

I REALLY need CC to work with mythtv.

Me too!!!!

poor support for closed captions is what has kept me away from DVRs in general especailly myth TV. but just last week I had an idea.

What I plan to do is find a set-top box CC decoder on ebay (I've found several actually havn't bought one yet, most go for about $20 which makes me happy)
The captions would be always on, but that's ok with me.

I've only used Closed captions when the decoder is built into the TV, but I assume that a CC decoder has a tuner in it, and you change the channels through it, kindof like a cable box.

This is where I hope some one can help me, what do I need to do to change the chanel on the CC decoder?

I'm wondering if maybe the above directions are a better way to go about it.

Naw... Too much trouble. Just use mythtv so at least your recordings are encapsulated with CC. If you are playing a recording I don't think you would see CC. Maybe for liveTV.
