np :)

alright this is what i done:

removed this file to another dir:

Code:
/etc/init.d/install-nvidia-7174-debian

then i tryed to look for these:

Code:
/etc/rc0.d/K90install-nvidia-7174-debian
/etc/rc1.d/K90install-nvidia-7174-debian
/etc/rc2.d/S90install-nvidia-7174-debian
/etc/rc3.d/S90install-nvidia-7174-debian
/etc/rc4.d/S90install-nvidia-7174-debian
/etc/rc5.d/S90install-nvidia-7174-debian
/etc/rc6.d/K90install-nvidia-7174-debian

Could not find them so i continued with this:

Code:
/usr/local/bin/install-nvidia-6629-debian.sh

when its done i get this warning:

Code:
warning:  Clock skew detected.  Your build may be incomplete.

I do a restart, of the system, and the screen is still black :(

does this mean anything?

Code:
warning:  Clock skew detected.  Your build may be incomplete.

could it be the cauce of my problem? the driver isent build properly?

BTW when i ctrl+alt+f1 to get a konsole, i also see some mesages about ACPI, along with the msg it using nvidia driver 6629.
Code:
ACPI: PCI: Interrupt for device 000:01:00:0 Disabled
ACPI: PCI: Interrupt 000:01:00:0[A] -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 17

dont know if this means anything special.

The "clock skew" message usually means that some of the files have datestamps in the future. or the like. This can happen for a variety of reasons including mis-setting the clock or a clock with serious drift being agressively corrected.

First lets check your clock to make sure it's right:
Code:
date

date is a bit behind :D

Code:
root@backend:~# date
Sat Mar  6 05:03:22 UTC 1999
root@backend:~#

so i did a:

Code:
root@backend:~# date 010420172006
Wed Jan  4 20:17:00 UTC 2006
root@backend:~#

so then i did a new:
Code:
/usr/local/bin/install-nvidia-6629-debian.sh

This time no clock srew msg was shown, althought the screen is still only black in GDM...

If you've got webmin working (if not now is a good time) go into the Hardware -> System Time screen and push the system time into the hardware clock so this doesn't keep recurring. The button for this is called "Set hardware time to system time". ;-)

Let me think on the other problem some more... I think we're going to end up needing to see your /var/log/XFree86.0.log to troubleshoot this. I suspect that you need a PAL compatible /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. A search of the forums should turn up at least a couple...

BTW - It'd be nice to have at least a video standard or country for the location in your profile (hint, hint, ...) That way I won't keep forgetting and suggesting that you try NTSC compatible examples... Just a bit of enlightened self interest...

alright tnx, wheni go under http://my ip
all i see is a page with Mythweb, and avi manager, and some docs.

I cant go to MythWEB, probaly becaus mythtv isent setup properly yet.
mabye this isent webmin ?

regarding my country and so on, i live in Denmark, Europe, so its PAL. How ever this shouldent be the problem here. Since i cant get a Output on a monitor. When it stats GDM my monitor goes black. The mashine i am setting it up on, is supposed to be a Backend for my Via Frontend, and the monitor works fine with my via board. no problem there. oh and my TV can display NTSC also if it were the case :) I also tryed a geforce2 card with no tv out and a geforce fx 5200 with tv out same results.

my xfree86 log.. dident know if you wanted it all.

I'm going to respond in pieces since it'll take me a while to go through your log file.

I cant go to MythWEB, probaly becaus mythtv isent setup properly yet.
mabye this isent webmin ?

It's not. See this page on the wiki: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=WebminHowTo

regarding my country and so on, i live in Denmark, Europe, so its PAL.
Please do me a favor. Click on this link: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/profile.php?mode=editprofile scroll down to location:, type "Denmark (PAL-B/G)" in entry field to the right of that, scroll down to the bottom and click on the Submit button. I help dozens of different folks a day and keeping stuff like this straight is just about impossible without a few clues to jog my overloaded and aging memory.

Have you seen the PAL HowTo on the wiki? http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=PalHowTo The MonitorToTVTransition page it points to is very helpful as well. http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=MonitorToTVTransition

How ever this shouldent be the problem here. Since i cant get a Output on a monitor. When it stats GDM my monitor goes black.

During boot he BIOS sets the video card for a "lowest common denomitor" text mode. However to display the GUI and video output requires that you use a more sophisticated graphics mode under the control of your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file. This transition occurs when you start up GDM (Gnome Destop Manager?) to run the GUI. If your XF86Config isn't right this is when the problem will show up.

What are you using for your video output anyway? From your X log file it looks like it's just a computer monitor, if that isn't the case it's probably the root of your problem. Also, are the Horz/Vert sync rates listed there correct for the device? For a computer monitor they should either be printed on the rear label or in the manuals.

Come on follow through! This isn't something you can just dab at and pretend. It's more like making pottery (or bread), where you'll never get anywhere without getting mud (or flour) up to your elbows. So lets roll up those sleeves and get to it!

- Did you check the label on the monitor for the horizontal and vertical frequency sync ranges?
- Did you search the net for that frequency information? Even if the manufacturers website doesn't list it for your monitor anymore, there are online resources which will.
- Did you alrready do that and just fail to answer my previous question?

There are very few reasons to get a black screen with a well supported video chipset like the FX5200. The main one (at about 95% probablity) is "your XF86Config-4 is very wrong". Within that, the most obvious problem that occurs to me is "your monitor can't sync to that frequency".

It might also help if you either post your whole XF86Config-4 here, or tell us which sample you're using, or ... Don't forget to include your monitor info.

I realy dont think its my monitor, as it is working fine when i use it on my Via Epia, and installing Knopmyth.

The XF86Config-4 File is from wikipedia, on the 5200 posting there was there.

My MOnitor is a realy old, like 97 something. Its from COmpaq, and it hasent have any listings, on its specs, but as i said before, its working fine when installing other computers ?

On its back is says its a model 311.

"Did you alrready do that and just fail to answer my previous question? "

Yes i did sorry :) Hope this helps some more.

root@mythtv:~# X -configure

(EE) Glide driver:

Could not load the shared library file for Glide: "libglide2x.so"!

You need to have Glide installed to run the glide driver for XFree86.
Also, you need to tell XFree86 where the libglide2x.so file is placed
by making a soft link in the /usr/X11R6/lib/modules directory that points
to the libglide2x.so file. For example (if your libglide2x.so file is in
/usr/lib):

  # ln -s /usr/lib/libglide2x.so /usr/X11R6/lib/modules

(EE) Failed to load module "glide" (a required submodule could not be loaded, 2)
(++) Using config file: "/root/XF86Config.new"

XFree86 detected your mouse at device /dev/mouse.
Please check your config if the mouse is still not
operational, as by default XFree86 tries to autodetect
the protocol.

Your XF86Config file is /root/XF86Config.new

To test the server, run 'XFree86 -xf86config /root/XF86Config.new'

root@mythtv:~#

Got it working..

Solution:

first, stop gdm

Code:
/etc/init.d/ gdm stop

then, run the config tool.
Code:
X -configure

copy the new config file and replace the old

Code:
cp /root/XF86Config.new /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

start gdm again

Code:
/etc/init.d/ gdm start
