I've been using R5B7 and R5C7 using the autoinstall only with very little problems. Just the other day I noticed the installation steps refer to installing the nVidia drivers (Yes, I have a 6200 card) and the install-i686-x for XvMC support.

Question, as an nVidia user, are those steps still required with either B or C release? BTW, using the Dragon config mb, video, and audio card and autoinstalling w/"dragon" at the command line.

It should be done for you automatically. If you watch carefuly after removing the CD and rebooting to enter the 2nd stage setup, there is usually a pause while it does this.

If your video is not being recognized for some reason you may need to do something, but iit would involve installing one of the 8xxx series Nvidia drivers and that takes some special monkeying.

I'd call it more than a pause, as while unpacking the kernel takes quite some time unless you have a blazing fast machine. The last install I did I was actually wishing there was more feedback during that part, as I could see someone who didn't know what was going on thinking it had locked up.

no on linux it is truly a unified driver as long as you are gf2 up not reinstall required.

Yes, it should, but the install process fails for me as the machine supposedly attempts to build the driver.

I'm using R5C7 with a 5500 series card. This configuration installed perfectly the first time I attempted it two weeks ago. I had to blow everything away because LIRC got fouled up beyond diagnosis.


When I attempt to run the NVIDIA build package manually, as suggested [url="http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10479"]here,[/url] the script keeps bailing out because it can't find the build headers.

After rebuilding my DVR twice this month, I'm starting to become disenchanted with KnoppMyth and MythTV in general. I'm not going to maintain a complete Sid build environment for the damn TV (especially since my general purpose distro of choice is Ubuntu), and I'm not going to shop around for ANOTHER GPU that may or may not work.

Don't get me wrong, before LIRC went schitzo-nutzo, KnoppMyth ran almost perfectly, and is one of the few solutions that actually works with the PVR 150's ir blaster with a minimum of fiddling. But I've gotten to the point where I want to watch TV, not hack on it.

- Manually unpack the kernel source in /usr/src

KM generally has all the pieces you need in place for it to be it's own development environment. I've compiled kernels, drivers, SVN version of MythTV, updated versions of xine, and a number of other packages on it.

The original poster has a 6200; I think he'll need a newer version than 7174.

Good point. Some 6200 based cards work with this version, but probably not even the majority.
