Post subject: | Install xmacro, system stops booting |
Greetings! On my previous installations of KnoppMyth (some R5A30 version) I used xmacroplay-keys (part of xmacro) to simulate escape to the current window when I pressed exit on my remote, this way I could exit programs such as zsnes with the remote. I decided to upgrade to R5C7. That installation is great. I add the testing/unstable archives to my sources.list and install xmacro with apt. When I reboot, the system hangs and never does anything. I connected a monitor and this is what I see: pages of: "mount: Device or resource busy", then: /linuxrc: Out of file descriptors /etc/init: Out of file descriptors Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! And then the system is toast. I've reinstalled four times, and the system just craps out after the install of xmacro. What can I do to make xmacro work without problems, or is there another suggestion for rigging my remote's exit key to be escape in all programs (without adding each to lircrc)? Thanks |

If you're going to use apt-get it's strongly recommended that you use the stable repositories. See my R5C7 upgrade hints for details. Also, do not use the -y option. You really want to look at the list of dependancies which it's proposing to install or remove and make an informed choice. Sometimes the correct choice is "Yikes! No way!" ![]() |

Thanks! I added only your recommended apt sources, and downloading the .deb from debian.org, that didn't require libc6, which might have been causing the problems |
