I'm taking a deep breath and incurring the wrath of all the knowledgeable Linux users with what is probably a stupid question. First let me start off by saying in my defence that the last time I used any Unix variant was on a IBM RS6000 box 10+ years ago but I've taken the plunge and gone with Knoppmyth for my home PVR setup, probably not the easiest option for effectively a Linux noob I grant you... Oh yes, my problem... When installing doing a manual install (dual-boot) of R5C7 following the instructions the whole process goes quite well, editing the install config to match my partitions, getting rid of the "Part" line in lilo.conf etc. except right at the end when I do the install-i686-x bit, it runs through tells me it is building a bootsplash initrd and then comes up with a warning about my boot partition being on a Windows 95 partition, (I made a DOS FAT16 partition for the bootloader) so I say "Y" to this and that's it. I left it and went back to it the next evening, no movement so I rebooted and continued the MythTV config and setup my card etc. Everything seems to work okay apart from I can not get any packages with apt-get, tells me to run dpkg --configure -a, which if I do gets me to the same place as before. Tried searching this forums, google search with no result, probably because I don't really know what I'm looking for. So what blaintently daft thing am I doing (or not doing)?! PS. If it's helpful the hardware is a Epia M10000 with 256mb RAM, 120gig HD,and a Nebula Digitv DVB-T card, the other OS is XP, /boot is on the FAT partition. Also tried a dpkg --clear-avail followed by an apt-get update. |

Hi, You shouldn't need a dos "bootloader" partition.. I dual boot xp and KM without one. As for the apt-get, there have been several posts around the forum and also a heads up about being careful so as not to trash you system.
