Does anyone have a PVR-350 TV out along with a monitor screen too ? I've searched & searched, and played with configurations [twinview, multihead..etc] and still can't get the TV out to the 350 going along with a screen on my monitor; I could care less if it's the same screen (MythTV) or if the monitor has a command line (but wouldn't know how to do this). I've been able to get MythTV to come up on the monitor and when I "watch TV" the TV displays on the TV, but I'm really looking for MythTV on the TV and a usable screen on the monitor. It would be so much easier to tweak things if I had the monitor up; right now I have to ssh to the box in order to change things, and that involves having to have a laptop hooked up to the setup through a router. Also still trying to get a really good picture out on the TV, although it's "passable" right now. I know there are tons of examples, and I've tried & tried to get something going but I'm sure I'm missing a keyword, key section, or whatever. ANY help on this appreciated. Using PVR-350 out for TV, FX5200 video card to monitor. Do 2 device sections have to be set up and drivers for each display loaded ? Or does screen0 have precedence and does it have to be the TV out ? I thought I read that somewhere. Anyway, any help or comments appreciated. All is going well with KnoppMyth except for this last hangup (have backup, most other things going). Please excuse my dumbness, I'm just getting tired of trying configuration after configuration, running gdm, and not getting the result I'm trying for, then having to unload gdm and play with the configuration again, the reload it. Hi mal1ch1, It appears you have the spilt operation, ensure the pvr-350 out is turned on so it uses the decoder instead of the frame buffer. That will improve quality of the picture. How do you have your record profiles setup? If you make them to lean to save space it will cost quality. To make your life eazier, use ssh to tweak the XF config file. You have to kill and restart the xserver which can be a pain in the knee or somewhere. Once it is running as it sounds like it is, you should not have to dink with it unless it is to play. When you have tv out active the monitor screen will go black. A simple alt x should open a terminal and you can procede as normal. If you have something that runs as gui (mozilla) you would enter mozilla and it should open on the computer monitor while the tv does it's own thing. I haven't used the split for a few weeks since my A16 e-machine motherboard died. Replacements are "sparse". Mike |

I appreciate the comments mjl. Yeh, I've tried just about everything it would seem; I may be an honorary member of "Xorg in the Sky" soon, I've read so much about X. Sure, I can just set things up to have TV out on the 350 using the "std" setup, which seems pretty simple by now, but no luck getting monitor out too. I've seen examples of 3 monitors out, so surely this is possible. However, when I took this example with 3 monitors out & modified for my use, it's still a no-go. Not sure if I should use the framebuffer & bus id's or what; the X log always states that the primary device (which is not the one I want) is at 3:0:0, which is the location of the FX5200. I also get a message that there's no corresponding device section for 2:8:0 & 2:9:0, which is where the PVR-500 is located. Anyway, I'm still working on it. Thanks for the help and comments. |

Hi, Good to hear, would you share the missing piece just for future reference? I suspect it had to do :0000:0x:0x.0 Multimedia video controller (pvr-350) being BusID "PCI:x:xx:0" (base 10 from base 16) ? Have a great day! Mike |

Mike, it only had to do with the ivtv file: /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv. That's it. A few changes, and I didn't even get a warning in the X log. As far as X configurations go, I think I pretty much know every section, keyword & option backwards & forwards. I had thought in the back of my mind that I was overlooking something, or missing the bigger picture somehow, but I wasn't sure exactly what it was. BTW, how many posts have you seen on PIP ? I can count them on one hand probably. I don't think it's that big a deal either, but I'm just starting to look at it. Again, thanks for all your time and help. |

Hi, Thanks for the feed back, never had to tweak in the ivtv for the dual setup. PIP, takes two tuners to start with or one tuner and one video capture. Handy for the back door cam when waiting for the kids to arrive home
