Hoping someone can help me. I am fairly technical, more software then hardware and completely new to Linux. I am trying to install KnoppMyth and it could not find the hard drive.

I verified that is in connected (it is SATA drive and the only one in the machine) and from the bios screen the system is recognizing it.

So I ran GParted and created 3 partitions (5000 MB, 775 MB, and remainder) all with JFS file system and the first one is flagged as boot. They are called: /dev/sda1, /dev/sda2, and /dev/sda3.

Error: Formatting of /dev/hda1 failed. Some message from mkfs.ext3: mke2fs 1.36 (05-Feb-2005) mkfs.ext3: No such device or address while trying to determine files system size.

I then reran GParted and made 1 big partition formatted with ext3 and same results.

You didn't say what type of install you're trying to do, but for SATA, you've got to use the manaul install rather than auto. There's a configuration script on the CD that makes this somewhat easier. Searching for "SATA install" should turn up something like this... There's more information in the Phamplet at - http://www.mysettopbox.tv/doc.html#manualinstall

Thanks for your response, this got me further, but when I am done with the partitioning and try to proceed I get the following error:

Fatal dialog error:
Error: Expected at least 7 tokens for –checklist, have 4
Use –help to list options

Any suggestions?
