| Post subject: | i586 vs i686 |
I read today that for anthlon processors, you are supposed ot choose the i686 option during install. I believe that chose the i585. Everything is working, but I was wondering if there could be any correlation to my bad picture quality and this error. Is there a way to fix this post-install? And, should I go through the trouble of reinstalling everything I have done just to change this option? - What is the real difference? ~Eric Wasserman~ |

You can switch between the i586 and i686 simply by running install-i686 or install-i586. It is ver unlikely that selecting the wrong option will have anything to do with poor picture quality. In future versions of knoppmyth, it is likely that there will not ba an install-i686 option because the performance gains are barely detectable. |

For what it's worth, I've installed both ways on an Athlon XP 3200+ and performance is about the same (for me anyway). I do notice that when you install the i686 libraries and if you look at the status window there are a few messages about the version being installed is a downgrade from the i586 libraries. |
