hey.. i had the same problem for months. i tried everything: played with bios, jumpers, connection variations - nothing worked. I recently tossed it and got an ide drive because noone here seems to know how to fix this problem and it was just turning into to big of a waste of time. I would either ebay that drive better, swap it out for a big drive in a windows based pc.

Sorry i cant be more help.

Hi,
KnoppMyth will manually install onto a sata drive. There are some tips in the "pamphlet" that are helpful and it has been covered in very good detail on the forum. Even some special tweaks where required.

Hi dvdude45,

KnoppMyth may be pretty on the "outside" but under the hood it is a work horse. You can do a lot (very carefully of course) and using the sata as a media storage should be possible. Example is that I did a manual install to a 4gig ide drive, peaked, tweaked (don't try to watch tv yet) and good to go. Then I added an external usb drive ~120gig and formatted as in the pamphlet. Updated the /etc/fstab to be able to mount it and then copied "cp -a /myth/* /mnt/sda3/"

To make life a little easier I used Ubuntu live 6.06 to set the partitions and format sda1 as ext3, mkswap /dev/sda2, and set the /myth as sda3.

Manually did the install to the usb drive, but I haven't got it to boot yet. Mean while I can still use the media partition with the 4gig. Once I figure out how to make it boot from the usb, I will copy over the mysql db and be good to go stand-alone usb.

You are only limited by the imagination, if you are short on skills as many of us are, do as I do, ask the good guys for a bit of guidence. :)

Mike

Might be a bit to late for you, but you are describing the exact issue that I was having. It turned out to be a user error though, when you are selecting the drive to partition make sure that you press the space bar...just because it is highlighted does not mean it is selected. When you neglect to do this you get the permissions error. Took me a few, but that fixed it for me.
