Post subject: | Knoppmyth install R5C7 stuck at step 2 |
All, I am a newbie with Linux and stuck at step 2 on an Autoinstall with version R5C7. The install seems fine and after the reboot I get a Knppmyth screen which I believe is the X but never get a xterm window to login. I try to use the menu to open a xterm window but nothing happens. ( right mouse on screen and use the menu). I can play Tux racer and use some of the apps from the menu provided but can't get to the next steps. (login as root and enter i686 to continue the install). I have reinstalled twice but same issue. I do not have the box connected to the internet at this point or the TV. Not sure if this matters but logically would think so... Also, I can access mythtv from the menu apps>graphics. Any time I try to change something a msg state the backend server is not reachabel or started. Seems like something simple but am starting to lose it. I've check the site for trouble shooting but at a loss ??? Any suggestion are greatly appreciated. System: AMD Athlon 800 Seagate ATA 300 G ABIT KT7 Creative SB Live Nvidai GEForce4 MX 440 MEM 384 Thanks, Rich |

Hi, Just to clear the air a little, reboot the cd and at the boot: knoppmyth testcd then press enter. All should report ok If not, it may be a bad burn / bad download. You can simply reset out after the test or go ahead and redo the auto install. Mike |

You need to clarify your thoughts... You state it is stuck at step 2, yet you go on to say it installs just fine. have you check the troubleshooting info on the wiki? |

Thanks for the feedback. A checksum on the CD failed with an input output error. Downloaded the image R5C7 again and burned the disk and had the same results. I proceded to download the R5D1 version but from different FTP site. No problems. I finally got a Xterm window and completed the configuration. The installation was really fast compared to the R5C7 (20 minutes as to 2 hours). Not sure if that was a fix in the new release or just my bad image. Not sure if the site's R5C7 image was bad from the FTP site but the new version looks good. Is the R5D1 code stable code? I will do a reinstall because I need to review some of the option during the install but my sanity is back. Once again thanks for the heads up.. Rich |

That is the intent. There are some known issues (see my update notes for details) but there were also known issues with R5C7 that are fixed in R5D1. |
