For ages I've had problems trying to get colour output on my tv, however it wont work, all I get is black and white, however I managed to get it working but it took a lot of time, so I took some time retraced my steps and now I know exactly what to do

1) Install a fresh copy of Knoppmyth

2) When it reboots hold down the left shift key, this should take you into the boot terminal

3) Type in
Code:
linux init=/bin/sh

4) Then type in
Code:
rm /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

5) Restart linux without pressing the left shift key

6) It will now be able to boot into the terminal with full abilities (or whatever its called), just log in as usual, (ie root, password) and type in and complete
Code:
netcardconfig

7) On another machine download https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/fglrx_4_3_0-8.16.20-1.i386.rpm, this is because wget cant download it

8) Download it from the computer
ie
Code:
wget http://192.168.1.101/fglrx_4_3_0-8.16.20-1.i386.rpm

9) Now convert the rpm file
Code:
alien -d fglrx_4_3_0-8.16.20-1.i386.rpm

10) Install the package
Code:
dpkg -i --force-overwrite fglrx_4_3_0-8.16.20-1.i386.rpm

11) Type in
Code:
fglrxconfig
configure tvout settings, save, restart, and YES COLOUR

btw, im also using this tutorial as a way to fix my problem when ive messed it up
Code:

Nice write up :D, but it probably doesn't belong under installation based on Cecil's criteria. As a result, you may have defeated your own stated purpose by putting it somewhere it's likely to get removed... :?

BTW - It would probably have been better to post this under "KnoppMyth - Hints & Tips".

Just thought id point out that you can do:
Code:
 wget https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/fglrx_4_3_0-8.16.20-1.i386.rpm --no-check-certificate

instead of downloading to a different pc the wgetting form that pc, this forces te download from ati[/code]

And also you should use:
Code:
dpkg -i --force-overwrite fglrx-4-3-0_8.16.20-2_i386.deb

and not :
Code:
dpkg -i --force-overwrite fglrx_4_3_0-8.16.20-1.i386.rpm
