Post subject:  install problems

I would like to install the R5D1 version, but am having problems with the boot.

It is assigning my drives /dev/hde,f,et...instead of /dev/hda.

I've tried the no dma option, but it doesn't work either.

any suggestions to get it to label them as /dev/hda, hdb,hdc...etc.

thanks.

How about a little more data on your rig and configuration? /dev/hda -/dev/hdd are usually related to the ide controller. Are these ide drives? How are they installed?

The drives are ide drives and if I install Fedora Core 3 then they are detected as /dev/hda.

I just have one hard drive in the machine until i get it installed, then I will put the other drive in to mount as /myth or something else.

when the boot is flying by, it spits out that DMA acceleration is turned on and defines all my IDE devices starting at /dev/hde instead of /dev/hda.

I don't want to turn off DMA acceleration, but don't know why it's labeling my drives starting at hde instead of hda.

TIA

HI,

You may want to check the jumper on the drive to be set as master and should connect to the last cable connection, on the mobo ide1 port. I recall seeing this issue before on the forum so it may take some digging but the answer is here, somewhere.

Fixed it.

It turns out that the motherboard had RAID enabled on it. I guess the newer kernels detects that and jumps over to /dev/hde instead of /dev/hda.

anyway, disabled onboard raid and all works now.

8-)

PVR350, PVR250, hd3000, and PVR350 TV-out all working like a charm.

I'm back in business!!!
