I'm trying to get the ATI drivers working for TV-out support. I think XFree86 4.5 is causing the problem instead of the required 4.3.

Can anyone help me figure out how to revert the 4.5 that came with R5D1 back to 4.3?

Thanks.

I can't answer your question, but I've fought with these drivers for quite some time. I've got TV out working, but not with XVideo acceleration.

The most recent ATI drivers have an issue, in that Xvideo will appear stretched vertically on TV-out. This issue has been around (apparently) since ATI version 8.20.8.

However, attempting to install the older drivers results in a kernel module compilation error - I've managed to get the module to compile, but X won't start up with it.

If rolling back to 4.3 works, be sure to let us know!

I got it working, without needing to roll back the XFree86 version. This post has the details.

I'm in a similar situation with my matrox g400 video card. The documentation for the proprietary matrox driver, needed for TV-out, indicates support for XFree86 4.3 and an assortment of X.org releases: 6.7.0, 6.8.0, 6.8.1, 6.8.2, 6.9.0 and 7.0.0.

To keep my g400 happy it looks like I'll have to do one of the following:

* Attempt to revert back to XFree86 4.3.
* Attempt to replace XFree86 with a suitable X.org offering.
* Not use knoppmyth, perhaps struggle with installing mythtv on ubuntu 6.06 which appears to use X.org 7.0.0.

I guess I could also consider tossing my g400 and picking up a nvidia card. :(

I'd be interested in hearing from any one who manages to roll back Xfree86 or get X.org up and running on R5D1.

Thanks,
Allan

I have this problem to. I have a Matrox G550.
After the installation of KnoppMyth R5F1 i have the Problem that my PC is freezing when i am pressing "watch TV"
When im removing the file /dev/dri/-card0 and pressing than "watch TV" everything is fine and i can see the TV Picture on my screen.

I think it could be a problem with the driver. So i tryed to install the Matrox driver Version: 4.4.0
ftp://ftp.matrox.com/pub/mga/archive/li ... -4.4.0.txt
This driver package includes previously released drivers for XFree86
versions 4.3.0 and X.org versions 6.7.0, 6.8.0, 6.8.1, 6.8.2, 6.9.0
and 7.0.0

With Knoppmyth comes a newer version of X.org and the driver installation aborts.

Has anybody an idea how to get the matrox driver working?
- which old knoppmyth includes a supported xorg
- how can i resolve the dri problem
- how can i downgarde to an old xorg? Is the downgrade difficult for a noob and will x-window still run?
