Hello,

I just recently upgraded to R5D1, after many years of successfully running on earlier versions, and things have gotten completely strange during the mythfilldb portion of the install. The mythfilldb http connection seems to repeatedly drop the datadirect response and keeps trying it over and over again.

Mind you, this is on a box that's had zero connectivity problems (reads files just fine off my NFS and SMB servers, and has an old reliable Intel NIC that's never had troubles before).

And now, during mythfill, the connection just dies to datadirect. I've tried making a manual connection and haven't had a problem, so I know it's not network or username/password related. Sniffing at the firewall shows the request & reply returned, and then .... silence for 15 minutes. The socket stays open, and no more requests are sent until it thinks the first one failed, and then tries again, and fails again after another 15 minutes.

/home/myth/wget-log just shows:

12:07:13 (9.26 KB/s) - Read error at byte 4626 (Connection timed out). Retrying.

--12:07:16-- http://datadirect.webservices.zap2it.co ... tvdService (try: 4) => '-'
Connection to datadirect.wevservices.zap2it.com|206.18.98.160|:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 401 Unauthorized
Connection to datadirect.wevservices.zap2it.com|206.18.98.160|:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
Length: unspecified [text/xml]

OK .... 100% 9.26KB/s

Over and over again, ad nauseum. The HTTP POST and response look absolutely normal, though the response is gzip'd and I haven't taken the time to pull it out of the binary capture file to confirm its contents. But it appears to be a complete reply.

I haven't seen a problem like this anywhere in the forums. Any ideas?

I am getting similar results.

In my case this is where the transaction is hanging:
...
Resolving datadirect.webservices.zap2it.com... 206.18.98.160
Connecting to datadirect.webservices.zap2it.com|206.18.98.160|:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 401 Unauthorized
Connecting to datadirect.webservices.zap2it.com|206.18.98.160|:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
Length: unspecified [text/xml]

[ <=> ] 4,626 701.69B/s

The byte count increases to 4,626 and then consistantly stops. I can get a different number of bytes through by adjusting the MTU, in always remains a consistant byte count between different tries.

I have further isolated it to something between my Linksys RV082 router and R5D1. (e1000 driver?) I have determined that if I remove the RV082 and connect with either another router or directly to my cable modem the problem goes away.

I captured the failing transaction with Ethereal, and I can post the transaction if anyone is interested. I am basically seeing a session start with datadirect.webservices.zap2it.com that fails after two packets are successfully received, and acknowledged. The session then hangs.

I have a second nearly exactly the same myth box on my network that is running an older version of knoppixmyth that is running fine.

Hmmm, it's intersting to me that you were able to get this to work by directly connecting to the Internet, rather than through a router. I'm not connecting via a linksys box, but via an OpenBSD firewall. I'll see if it's something happening on the firewall, rather than on the knoppmyth box.

Let me know if you isolate what's going on. Do you also have an intel NIC?

I am using a linksys RV042 and had the same scenario.
I lowered the MTU to 100 bytes untileverything came through.
very strange.

I have this same exact problem. However I cannot lower my MTU to 100. Linksys WRT54G limits to 576 MTU setting. My box is worthless without channel listings. Is there any way to use an alternative service? This seems like a R5D1 specific problem. Can anyone help me?

I'm not ruling out R5D1 yet. I just don't have enough evidence to convict it.
Although I never had the problem with R5C7, R5D1 worked fine for a couple of months. I did upgrade the firmware on the linksys box not too long ago. I always like to isolate and attack. In this case I'd jack directly into to my cable/dsl modem prove that it's definitely linksys voodoo and then call linksys tech support or dig in their forums/kb. Maybe they've got a clue (albeit doubtful).

Hi,

Are you guys referring to

HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 401 Unauthorized
&
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK

?

If so, I think it is about normal. The 401 are the listing choices not selected and the 200 are ones that you did choose. It only brings those down that you set up in zap2it.

Mike

401... 200 thingy.

I know it's strange and makes little sense to me.
But on those damn linksys boxes, the connections drop out after successfully pulling a few thousand k of data.
This never used to happen. And lowering the MTU fixes it. I wish I were an ethernet weenie so it made some kind of sense

It's strange but after several installs of R5D1 in the last couple of weeks, this problem just started happening for me in the last 48 hours. I haven't had a problem with this aspect of the installs at all until my most recent install.

/me scratches his head and goes back to the grind.

I'm starting to think that the provider is having problems right now.

It seems to be moderately rampant right now.

In my case, it was something todo with tcp windowing, which is not implemented in my linksys. I disabled it, and the happiness returned.

I have similar errors, but it eventually downloads all the program data.
